<itunes:summary>Professor Marcel Machill, Chair of Journalism and International Media Systems University of Leipzig, held this talk at the University of Bergen 4. December 2006.

Barbara Gentikow: The Theory of Cultural Techniques

	About the master course INFOMEVI344:
“This course aims to provide students with the theoretical grounding necessary to understand the processes of change in ICT and media technologies, and to assess public discourse about them. Much of the course will be oriented to the practical features of individual media technologies, primarily the Internet and digital media.
The lectures and literature will address modern media and technological cultures. We will discuss the social, economical and material forces influencing media change. We will ask: How can we understand technology both as a cultural force and a cultural consequence? How should we understand the relationships among cultural, political and technological change?
The course combines perspectives from information science and media studies, and aims to build and reinforce common theoretical frameworks for research at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies.”</itunes:summary>
